Please Don't Sue Me...

If you're from a movie or television studio and planning a lawsuit against me, please read this.

One concept artist asked if I was afraid of being sued. I'm not, but figure it couldn't hurt to bring it up.

First, I honor all requests to remove art work. Its happened a bunch of times and I've always done it as quickly as possible. This site is all about promoting the work of great artists in the film industry. I'm not looking for sensationalism or self-promotion.

Second, I make no profit off this site. It's strictly a labor of love. Yes, there are ads, but they don't even pay for a cup of coffee. Starbucks or otherwise. Really, this site is free advertising for movie studios.

Third, I try to get permission from the studios and always hit dead ends. I used to try emailing the studios, but that goes nowhere if you don't know who to contact. I started calling the studios, but that doesn't work out well either.

I've gotten close though.

For example, I called one studio and asked for the public relations department. The department told me I need the publicity dept. I talked with a very nice guy who told me he'd forward the request to the team assigned to the property. I never got a response. I was hopeful I could start making contacts with the major studios.
After that I tried calling Twentieth Century Fox. That was ridiculous. I couldn't find a central phone number so I started just calling random parts of the studio. One phone number just rang and rang with no one picking it up. Then, when I did talk to someone, they accidentally hung up on me. It made me pretty mad, so I never bothered them again.

It would be nice if the studios made its easier to promote their property, but what are you going to do.

So, in conclusion, please don't sue me.

What do you think? Should someone sue me? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Geez I didn't know things could get this serious...I hope me posting concept art of each of the X-movies (as I have planned to do so) doesn't put me in a spot.

I don't see why you'd be sued though. Besides the points you've mentioned, you also post the art mostly after the movie has released. And if you do post it before the movie's release, they have been official releases anyways...

  2. Njferns, its not likely you'd have to worry. Most of the concept at I've been asked to remove is from unreleased movies or movies recently released. The studios often view concept art as proprietary and want to control its release. My site is a target because there's so much of it on here and its high profile.
